• Current Situation In Diepkloof

Diepkloof a township for blacks in Soweto is also experiencing the adverse effects of HIV / AIDS. The high death rate of parents has increased the number of orphans. These children will require ongoing and consistent support until they reach adulthood. The government is sensitive to the above mentioned problem, but it cannot reach out to all or meet all their needs on its own. Non - governmental organizations and businesses should also join hands in the solution of problems faced by the affected and infected community.

• The Organization

It was started by Mrs. F.A. Mthembi in 2003 January

Reason for starting the Project:-

• Noted report and awareness as put forward at the world summit on sustainable development in 2002, Where Mrs. F.A Mthembi was a delegate nominated by civil society.
• Awareness of HIV affected and infected children and their families as put forward in media, community, churches, schools, and work places.
• Vision

To be the most efficient and effective organization in the care and support of HIV/AIDS infected and affected individuals and their families in the whole of Diepkloof.

• Mission Statement

To insure that the bio physical and psychosocial needs of orphans and other children made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS are met so as to promote their positive self esteem.

• Programme

Proper identification of orphans and other children made vulnerable.

Activities:-

• obtain orphans and vulnerable childrens house numbers from the community.
• Through these numbers home visits and interviews are done on orphans and other vulnerable children.
• Data analysis and discussions.
• Identification of needs, problems and challenges.

Psycho- Social support Services:

Activities

• Continuous home visits.
• School holiday activities.
• Counseling.
• Health monitoring.
• Monitoring of school work & educational stimulation
• Referrals

Poverty Alleviation
Activities
• Preparation and serving of meals.
• Issuing of food parcels, clothing & school uniform.
• Participation in food gardening project by the guardians/parents.
• Assistance with application for birth documents/Id’s & social grants.
Community Development.
• Implementation of EPWP programme.
• Training of guardians on food garden and sewing projects.
• Information and education of communities on issues affecting their lives.
